Euphoria Inspired Makeup & Costumes

10.25.19

I am ALL about an amazing, captivating, thrilling television show with twists and turns that make my jaw drop. Seriously, I feel like I’m so desensitized to dramatic, heavy things now that I am always wanting and needing MORE in a show.

But holy eff. Euphoria. This one made my jaw drop, tears stream down my face, I laughed, I was in awe. This show not only had the content and storyline, but the music, makeup, costumes and effects were UNREAL. One of the most unique projects I’ve seen in a while. Therefore, I became obsessed. I was dying to watch it every week, but it also was so heavy. And being about teens in today’s modern society, I couldn’t help but think about how I was going to parent around and on these issues.

Before I go any further, here’s a basic, one-sentence synopsis of the HBO show:

Following a group of high school students as they navigate love and friendships in a world of drugs, sex, trauma and social media, the series will be executive produced by Drake, along with manager Future the Prince.

Had to throw Drake in there lol. I feel like this is a very on-point review by IndieWire if you want to learn a little more about it before diving in.

Essentially, the main character (Rue) comes back from rehab after nearly dying from an overdose. We’ve seen these drug-related shows over and over—Breaking Bad, Narcos, Weeds—but there’s something about teens using, especially now as a mom, and seeing that gruesome scene where Rue is nearly dead on her bedroom floor covered in puke.

If that’s not some heart-stopping, car-crash type sh**, then I don’t know what is! As I just described, it’s like that sick metaphor where you can’t look away from a deadly car crash. And you just need to know more.

Regardless, as hard as it could be to watch at times, it’s real stuff. And stuff that I want to be aware of as a parent so that I can prepare myself and Thor for how to handle things like this, so we can learn to create and open and honest home for our kids where they feel safe to tell us anything. Ignorance is not bliss here.

Okay now onto what this post is actually about haha. TANGENT.

So truly, my favorite part of the show were the costumes by Heidi Bivens, makeup by Kirin Rider and music by Labrinth (listen on Spotify).

With Halloween coming up, I just had to team up with one of my fave people and the most talented makeup artist I know, Bryanna Casey of the Phoenix Makeup Collective to create a couple of badass, crazy Euphoria-inspired Halloween looks and could be recreated at home!

The first look was inspired by Maddy’s big blue eyes she wore in her cheerleading uniform. The second was half inspired by Jules’ makeup and Maddy’s cute fuzzy set. I saw this at Forever 21 and I could not pass up getting it. Inspo:

One of my friends from middle and high school, Allie Devine, is an amazing photographer and she was so sweet to collab with me on this, even when she doesn’t specialize in this type of photography! She loves capturing families, babies, births, etc and she also does video AND she’s a doula! WHAAAT! Check her out here.

Below is little gadget where you can directly shop the makeup that we used. Bry also listed it out for me so that you can see the order of everything she used on my face and for what!

Lastly – a video is coming, it’s just taking me longer than I expected. I’m a little rusty with my video editing ha.

I can’t wait to see if any of you do a Euphoria-inspired Halloween costume! Tag me!
